Perfect Pretzel Cheese

Perfect Pretzel Cheese

Who hasn’t looked for the perfect pretzel cheese recipe at some point? We make homemade pretzels quite a bit, so have searched for years, and ended up creating our own that we absolutely love! It’s one of those that we made out of necessity one evening when we were out of regular cheese. “Mom, all we have are Kraft singles?” Welp, I guess we’re about to get creative then… We started making it the same way we make The Best Baked Macaroni and Cheese Ever, by starting off with a roux of butter and flour. We just added a lot less milk, a pinch of salt and started melting singles in there. The end result was a surprisingly so good for such a simple, accidental recipe. They say necessity is the mother of invention, and she definitely invented something incredibly delicious in this case.

Other Things You Can Dip In This Cheese Sauce

Since creating this for our homemade pretzels, we’ve used it on all sorts of thing. It’s the perfect fondue cheese for bread and veggies, very good on broccoli. It’s also really good on bowtie pasta, as a sort of makeshift mac and cheese. We dip both soft pretzels, and pretzel thins in this sauce. You could add some Rotel to it and make queso (we traditionally use velveeta for that, but this is very similar).

Super Simple

I think the beauty of this super simple recipe is you likely have all of the ingredients on hand, and it takes no time at all to throw together. Want it to be cheesier? Add more singles. Thinner? Add more milk. Spicy? Add some jalapenos. Shoot, you could even use it as a drizzle on homemade nachos. That’s something else we love around here, nachos! Whatever you decide to use it on, it’ll quickly become a simple staple recipe for anything requiring cheese.
