Why I Love Cold Plunging

Why I Love Cold Plunging

It’s about a million degrees here in Texas, but that’s not why I love cold plunging. Although, It feeling like fire outside does happen to be a fantastic time to start sitting in a tub full of ice as part of your daily routine.

What is Cold Plunging

cold plunge is the act of submerging your body in cold water (59 degrees Fahrenheit or less) for an extended period of time.

Cold plunging, or ice baths as some call ’em, do so much more than you’d think for your body AND your mind. I’d even go so far as to say the mental benefits outweigh the numerous physical.

Because the reasons are many, I’m going to briefly break down why I love cold plunging.

Mental Benefits of Cold Plunging

Jumping into a bath full of ice water isn’t exactly on most people’s “Oh I can’t wait to do this” list, at first. Doing something that sucks, because you know it’s good for you is a muscle. It’s something that once you do repeatedly, you begin to look forward to. It goes from something you dread, to something you can be proud of yourself for overcoming.

When it’s just you and that ice cold water in the tub, and you’re waiting for the timer to go off, you have to focus on your inner monologue. That’ll make or break you. “I can’t do this, it’s too cold.” isn’t gonna cut it. You have to train yourself to focus on your breathing, and gas yourself up Goggins style. Who’s gonna carry the boats?!

Knowing you’re going to do this every single day, and hold yourself to it, is like dipping your toe into the waters (pun intended) of why 75 Hard is so life changing for so many. You can do hard things, and you can do them consistently. You will show up for yourself. You will show YOU what YOU are capable of doing despite the circumstances and obstacles in your way.

I could go on and on with what mental hurdles this exercise helps me overcome daily, but you get the direction I’m headed. You can do things that suck, and win the mental battle within.
