This is The Best and Only Way to Make A Bagel. “But, https://heylinz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/pennant-1.jpg, how can you be so confident…” Same as when I shared The Best Baked Macaroni and Cheese Ever – it’s backed by years of research. Kidding! Our family and friends that come stay with us have just said it’s the best so many times, that’s what we call them. Also I really want everyone to try making their bagels this way and that headline should hook ’em in!
Okay, onto the important stuff. I’ll shorten this backstory enough so that you get the point without needing every little detail. When we were little my Mom joined a bowling league, so we spent an inordinate amount of time eating Bowling Alley food for lunch. This wasn’t premade and reheated stuff, it was someone’s Grandma behind the griddle. This is how they made bagels, and that’s how it became a staple in our family.
Up until this point, we’d made bagels in the oven. Broiler bagels are still something to behold – but the skillet method is our ultimate. Try both! If you do the broiler method, use an ample amount of butter and remove ’em when the edges are golden brown and the butter is bubbling.
The Best and Only Way to Make A Bagel
Ingredients
- 1 block Cream Cheese Name brand matters in this case. Slice it up to soften quicker.
- 1 Bagel Get regular 'ol plain, or spice it up with an everything bagel.
- 1 stick Butter Slice your butter into 1/2 tablespoons to soften
Instructions
- Cut your cream cheese and butter so they'll soften quicker
- Cut your bagel in half
- Heat your skillet on medium to medium high
- Add butter to melt as it heats
- Place your bagel halves face down into the butter and make sure you move them around to get melted butter on the entire surface
- Use your spatula to "squish" your bagels down
- Check them periodically and adjust the heat accordingly. We're going for a soft golden brown with mildly cripsy edges.
- If your cream cheese isn't super soft, pop it in the microwave for ten seconds. That's usually more than enough to soften it.
- Spread the cream cheese on each bagel half
- Cut bagels in half for less messy consumption
- Enjoy!
